Description
1. Route description, explanation of signs
Short tour in the southern area of Lake Balaton with medium elevation gain.
The route can be divided into two sections: from the hilltop above the Kőröshegy viaduct to Kötcse you will ride on unpaved roads, the remaining part of the route is paved. Due to the unpaved roads, this tour is not recommended in rainy weather.
The dashed line on the map indicates an unpaved path.

2. Difficulty factors in the tour
The route between Balatonszárszó and Kötcse runs on a low-traffic public road even outside the villages, so you have to ride with extra care.
When cycling from Kötcse in the direction of Kőröshegy, you should ride downhill on the concrete road with caution as there are several potholes.
The forest road between Kötcse and Kőröshegy becomes very slippery after rain.
The route crosses the main road 7 at Balatonföldvár and Balatonszárszó, please ride with extra caution there.

3. Ambience
This round tour, which connects beautiful viewpoints and cosy wine cellars near Balatonföldvár, covers maybe less kilometres, but offers relaxation, recreation and many adventures. Although you will turn off from the shore of Lake Balaton towards the interior of Somogy quite early in the tour, you will surely be attracted by the lake all the time: first you will have a close-up view, later on you can see the glittering water surface from a distance, and if you feel like it at the end of the tour, you can dive into the lake in the evening. It is a tour that relaxes your body and soul and rewards you with unforgettable moments after the ascents: the Museum of Naval History in Balatonföldvár, the early medieval chapel in Teleki or the loess cellars in Szólád are all telling the history of the area. The traditional Balaton wine culture can most effectively be discovered by tasting fine wines. Riding in a group or as a couple, finishing in an afternoon or riding all day long, you can surely enjoy the tour on a sunny Spring-, warm Summer- or cheerful Autumn day.

Further informationThe GINOP-7.1.9-17 - 2018 - 00012 development project shall be implemented in the Lake Balaton high profile tourism development area. The aim of the project is to extensively implement cycling developments for the entire region, including both shoreline and backcountry settlements in the circulation.
