Project summary

BalatonBike365 has been implemented in the Lake Balaton high profile tourism development area. The aim of the project was to extensively implement cycling developments for the entire region, including both shoreline and backcountry settlements in the circulation.

We have divided the development into areas so that we can focus on each of them separately. Special attention has thus been paid to connecting the Lake Balaton cycling circuit with the cycling routes to be designated and signposted in the southern part of Lake Balaton, in the Balaton Highlands and in the West Balaton-Kis-Balaton regions, as well as with the unique forest adventure trail in the Northern part.

We also aimed to increase the volume and share of cycling tourism and reduce its spatial and temporal concentration, expand core services, enhance tourism service opportunities by focusing on the network of cycling-friendly service providers, deliver extensive information and promote networking.
So we can be proud of the immediate results of the project: the signposted cycling routes and rest areas, about 70 themed tours that can be categorised into 3 difficulty levels, a minimum length of 1000 km uninterrupted cycling route, 3 well-equipped service centres in Balatonföldvár, Keszthely and Balatonfüred, an innovative, cutting-edge mobile app and website covering cyclists' needs as well as 6 new jobs.

As a result, we expect an increase in the number of overnight stays in the targeted regions, both in terms of domestic tourism and, hopefully, of foreign tourism catching up again. Owing to the infrastructural developments, Lake Balaton and its surroundings can be enjoyed by cyclists all year round.
