Difficulty factors
In terms of topography, the tour does not include difficult climbs, sometimes the road climbs slowly. The distance of 67 kilometers alone can be a problem for those who are used to shorter routes. In the summer, the heat and the wind can be a problem, there is relatively little shade during the tour.
Mood description
Apart from the starting/arrival point, Fonyód, the tour is actually flat all the way and contains only gentle hills, so it is suitable for light, recreational sports, depending on the condition, it lasts 2-3 hours. The landscape of Somogy is pleasantly relaxing, and you don't have to expect a lot of traffic on the public roads and on the shores of Lake Balaton.
Detailed tour description:
We chose a small lookout point, the Walkó lookout point, as the starting/arrival point because of the panorama on the Fonyód hill, where there are also some parking spaces. Of course, we can also start the tour from another place. Rolling down the hill in the direction of Buzsák, follow the "14 red A" sign and head straight south. Soon, this will be a high-quality cycle path all the way, in the spring of 2022 it will also include lower quality sections and a gravel road. However, when we reach Buzsák, we can forget about similar difficulties, and continue on the high-quality bike path and public road for the rest of the tour. After the Buzsák, we continue on the new bike path for a like 5 kilometers, then turn right onto the public road towards Marcali. From there, a particularly enjoyable 15 kilometers await us on a slightly undulating topography, partially renovated mirror-smooth asphalt, where, despite this, there is little traffic. We cycle from Marcali to Kéthely, then on the road to the shores of Lake Balaton. Even after Kéthely, the bike path suitable for sports will soon be built, which means that we will have a predominantly protected circuit. From Balatonmáriafürdő we continue along the usual signposted Balaton Bike Ring Road to Fonyód, with the option of eating or going to the beach.
