1. Route description, explanation of signs
A medium-length tour in the southern Lake Balaton area with moderate elevation difference, particularly recommended for a summer afternoon or as a day tour in autumn or spring. Due to the almost 500 metres of elevation gain, the tour is recommended for fairly regular cyclists or e-bike riders.
The dashed line on the map indicates an unpaved path that is difficult to ride on for a while after a rain.
2. Difficulty factors in the tour
The roads on the route are diverse, with a relatively small section on a low-traffic public road, but there are two crossings of the main road 7, one of which with traffic lights and the other with a designated pedestrian crossing where you should walk your bike.
The dirt road between Alirét and the Cinege rest area is loamy and very slippery for a short time after a rain.
Drinking water sources are limited on the tour so make sure you head out carrying full water bottles.
3. Ambience
Many good points can be earned by riding this 46 kilometre long bicycle tour, which includes the most amazing sights of Somogy. Furthermore, the experience of cycling in itself will be extraordinary - since the route is mostly on cycle paths or agricultural and forestry roads, you can feel safe and have a relaxed look around. And there are many reasons to do so: the trail offers a variety of sights, from an observation tower to an open-air museum, from a place of pilgrimage to a cave, from a nature trail to an immense panoramic landscape. It is no coincidence that the places you will visit also appear in travel guides: it doesn’t matter if you have already visited one or the other before, they are sure to enchant you even for the hundredth time. If you were to award points at the end of the route, you would certainly give ten out of ten points to this tour, which you can enjoy the most in sunny, dry weather.
