4. Detailed tour description
The starting point is Nagymező located uphill from Balatonfüred, which can be easily reached within a few minutes from the town. At the white church, turn upwards onto Óvoda utca and go straight uphill to Nagymező.
Following trail 246, you will arrive in Veszprémfajsz after passing through a beautiful forest on a well-maintained forestry road. On the last two kilometres before reaching Veszprémfajsz, the trail runs on an unpaved road, be prepared for this stretch to become muddy in rainy weather. From here you will ride on a low-traffic asphalt road towards Nemesvámos where it is worth visiting the former Roman settlement of Baláca Puszta.
Nemesvámos is a good place for a first stop on the tour. You can either stop at the Rózsa pizzeria and beerhouse, which is open all year round from 11:00am to 10:00pm, or at the recently opened Kerekes Völgykapu rest area for cyclists (closed on Mondays and Tuesdays). The latter is ideally located on the bike path to Veszprém, thus it is also possible to join this tour starting from Veszprém.
Trail 246 is the shortest connecting route between Balatonfüred and Veszprém.
From Nemesvámos ride along the bike path built a couple of years ago to reach Hidegkút. In this charming village in the valley, the local pub provides another possible rest stop, usually open from 3 pm.
From Hidegkút follow trail 245 on a stony forestry road to Nagymező, where you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of Lake Balaton. From here, cycle carefully on the loose gravel path back to the starting point.
