1. Route description, explanation of signs
This short route with low elevation gains through the southern Lake Balaton area is particularly convenient for a late afternoon bike ride with the family but is not recommended with very young children because it is mostly routed on low-traffic public roads.
As the tour does not include any unpaved roads, it can be cycled all year round and regardless of rain conditions.
2. Difficulty factors in the tour
The tour can be completed in both directions, there is no significant difference in terms of safety or elevation.
The only noticeable uphill section in either direction is the climb to Jódi Hill near Töreki, but you can also walk the bike up there.
Most of the tour runs on low-traffic public roads thus it is important to follow the highway code.
On Jódi Hill, 1.4 km of the route leads over a gravel path, you have to ride with extra caution if using slimmer tyres.
The route crosses the main public road 7 at Balatonszéplak, you should walk your bike over the pedestrian crossing.
3. Ambience
You don't have to ride your bike too long to prove that you can find a variety of real natural treasures in Siófok and its surroundings. During the slightly more than 21-kilometre round trip, you can take the most diverse treasures from the town's “treasure chest” one after the other: you can admire colourful rose bushes, examine magically beautiful minerals or discover the undisturbed habitat of migratory birds. If you enjoy discovering new worlds, you can plan the whole day for the tour, which is mostly running on cycle paths and roads with little traffic. Töreki itself is a place of magical beauty, where you can easily plan to spend a longer time - the beautifully laid out nature trail and a series of picturesque small fish ponds are ideal resting places. Before the tour returns to Siófok, you will ride through the vacation resort of Balatonszéplak, where you can peek into lovely flower gardens behind the fences. At the end of the route it is worth visiting the famous, nearly hundred-year-old Rózsaliget (Rose Grove) - a symbolic place that proves: you can do a lot yourself to preserve the treasures of nature.
