Júlia Szendrey became widely known as the muse of famous Hungarian poet Sándor Petőfi, although she herself was an excellent writer and poet. Her memorial room shows her life, her work and recounts a story of immortal, eternal love. She was born on the 28th (or 29th) of December 1828 in the Szendrey-telep district of Keszthely, also called Újmajor, as the first child of Ignác Szendrey, the bailiff of the "Ujj-major" manor of the Festetics estate. The area of the former manor is crossed by Fenyves Allee (Black Pine Avenue) which Júlia Szendrey had not yet been able to see, as the trees were only planted towards the end of the century during the 1880s. The memorial room is managed by the Georgikon Faculty of MATE. Visiting is possible by prior appointment.
