Introduction

Working together can be a real pleasure, even if it is hard. Washing clothes by hand, indeed, is not an easy task. Perhaps this is why the women in the area went to the laundry houses set up by the streams, where the water was dammed so that clothes were easier to wash. During the work they sang or gossiped, and so the time spent on strenuous work was flying by.
