Waymarked cycling route numbers in the Balaton region
As part of the cycling network established in the Balaton area, the routes starting from the lake shore cycling route were designated and signposted, and the back settlements and the attractions were also included in the cycling network. The designated bicycle routes were given road numbers, and the circular tours were marked with letters and colours.
The most important information about bicycle road numbers
- Only those routes that are designated (or planned) bicycle routes have bicycle numbers.
- The cycling route has the same number from start to finish, regardless of whether it is a public road, forest road or cycle path.
- The bicycle route marked with a number always goes from a specific point to a specific destination. The spinal route, e.g. the already mentioned number 13 connects Fertőd and Keszthely, number 1 (currently) Szentgotthárd and Budapest.
- The road section is always signposted in both directions.
- A given section can only have a Hungarian number sign, but a road section can have both a Hungarian and an international number sign. E.g. Bicycle Route 1 also has international EuroVelo number 14 (Szentgotthárd – Balaton – Budapest)
- The size of the number marks also indicates the classification of the route:
- one-digit route of national importance (e.g. route 1 Szentgotthárd – Balaton – Budapest, but according to the plans, it will continue all the way to Debrecen); it usually means a tour of several days, a route crossing parts of the country.
- the two-digit route connects landscape units of regional importance (e.g. 13 Fertő Lake with Lake Balaton, or 24 Győr with Balaton); it can be visited with a one- or two-day tour.
- the three-digit route is regional, within the given point there are two touristically significant links, usually a one-day trip is assumed, i.e. tours visiting attractions. E.g.
two touristically significant cities:- 135 Keszthely-Sümeg;
from the tourist centre or from the Bringakörút on the designated route to a hiking spot: 1 - 25 BB-Bivalyrezervátum;
attractive route worth travelling on your own: 131 Keszthely-Sümeg.
- 135 Keszthely-Sümeg;
