Difficulty factors
The circuit starts with a gentler climb and later there are no very steep climbs. The difficulty comes from the fact that for a significant part of the tour we climb up and down smaller and larger hills. The most tiring is perhaps the 20km between 34-54, when there are 4 approximately A hill with a difference in level of 100 meters. In the second half of the tour, the wind blowing from Lake Balaton can be a difficulty, depending on the season. On the forest road from Szántód on the slopes, you have to pay attention to gravel and the cars that appear from time to time.
Mood description
A particularly varied, average-long, nearly 90-kilometer road circuit in the landscapes below Balatonföldvár in the Somogyi hills, with many differences in level due to the several small climbs. Its special feature is that it travels on wider public roads going south, but despite this, the traffic is predominantly extremely low and the asphalt is excellent quality.
Detailed tour description
Due to the many access options, we chose the parking lot of the ferry port in Szántód as the starting point, from where take the bike path to highway 7, and then the gently rising small road starts from the Tóth car service, and a climb till the elevation of the highway. This shady little road in the forest is of quite good quality, it is comfortable even with 25mm tires, and it is cool even in the biggest heat waves because of the trees. It rises just enough, which is good for a warm-up. After passing under the highway, there is a small roller coaster, still on a forest road, and descend all the way to Jabapuszta. It is worth filling a water bottle here, because the blue wells are blocked in many villages in the thick of Somogy. At the junction with the main road take a left and continue on the main road, which is wide enough so that we don't disturb each other with the cars that pass by infrequently (but at a higher speed). A hill starting from Lulla has to be climbed, and three or four more from this can be expected. After 25km, when reaching Tab, you should turn right, and then you should notice the no-biking signs posted in several places, which are meant to direct you to the bike path. At 33 kilometres, those who feel that the 88 kilometres will be a lot, can turn right home towards Kereki, so the tour can be shortened to 50 km. Those who follow the original route can complete another hill towards Andocs, still among the beautiful scenery of Somogy. At Andocs, a right turn in the middle of the village, then another climb, from here it heads towards Lake Balaton again. Passing through Karád, at 50 kilometres the last climb worth mentioning, after which we soon roll down to the shores of Lake Balaton. From Karád to Visz, the lanky slope on the mirror asphalt is a great experience, let's take advantage of it, because it's the last such opportunity in the circuit. From Látrány, we catch a glimpse of the lake several times, then we reach the shore at Balatonlelle, from where continue on the Balaton Circle. This is the final part of the tour, and those who, breaking away from the spell of the Watts, are happy to stop for a beer sausage, will not be disturbed by the very high tumultuousness of the season.
