Difficulty factors
The climb to Gella is quite difficult, four kilometers in total, with a steep part in the middle. What is much more important from the point of view of orientation is that the bypass is constantly being built in Veszprém and the situation is changing, the design of bike paths may also change, so it is worth following the signs in Veszprém.
Mood description
This road tour shows the most beautiful panoramic parts of the Balaton in the line of the Lovas-Füred-Aszófő, but at the same time it also challenges the cyclists with the Gella and the northern hills. It avoid the cycle paths in the frequented touristic areas and crowded sections, but from Tótvázsony you can also cycle on a very well-usable, dinamic bike path.
Detailed tour description
In Balatonfüred, the Spar parking lot at roundabout 71 can be the starting point, from here we turn onto btingaút and then join the road leading to Aszófő. This is 4 kilometers to Aszófő, looking to the left you can see many times the panorama of the Lake Balaton, which setting the mood for the tour. At Aszófő we turn right next to the church, then the next settlement is Pécsely, where we turn right immediately. Leaving the village, take another right uphill, and soon another very nice stretch of road will follow until Balatonszőlős, still with low traffic, on a good road. In Szőlős, we turn left onto the main road and here the longest climb of the tour begins. If we complete the circuit in the opposite direction, we are already three-quarters of the distance here, so it is definitely worth stopping by the Szőlősi Pub for food and drink, where bikers are welcome. The four-kilometer ascent towards Tótvázsony begins to harden after two kilometers, and then lets out a little again. From Tótvázsony, we switched to a wonderful bike ride, where you can talk undisturbed, ride in pairs if there are more of us. There som uphills in it, which makes it more difficult to form sentences... After Nemesvámos, we reach the city of Veszprém on bike paths, where it is worth following the usual signs. From Veszprém, we start on the bike path leading to Szentkirályszabadja, then turn right at a certain point and join the road from 73, which leads to Felsőörs. From Felsőörs, there is another section of the bike path towards Lovas. From here we go back to Füred on the old Roman way, often seeing the Lake Balaton and the vineyards. In Füred, we can choose from among the catering units, where and how to replace the burned calories.
